Alli Crytser, Wes Gable Lead XC Hawks at Pole Green

On Saturday, September 7, a day of abundant sunshine, the Hanover cross country team ran its first 5K of the season at Pole Green Park in the annual Pole Green XC Classic.
The shorthanded varsity girls put forth a great effort, finishing 12th out of 20 schools. The Hawks were led by freshmen sensation Alli Crytser, whose time of 18:59 was good for third place in a competitive field. Erika Osborn (21:50.10), Delaney Childs (22:23.70), Bella Faudale (22:24.80), and Grace Bell (22:45.90) also ran varsity for the Hawks on Saturday.
Junior Wes Gable paved the way for the varsity boys, running a personal best time of 18:03.70, good for 79th place. Joining him on the varsity squad were: Nick Ligday (18:14), Tristin Lemens (18:20.30), Troy Charania (18:29.40), Cole Myers (18:42.60), Khaliq McQueen (19:19), and Ethan Coleman (19:20.30). The boys’ varsity placed 19th of 28 schools.
In the JV division, Oak Knoll Middle School 8th grader Hannah Clarke stood out with an outstanding second place finish, with a time of 22:01.20. Sophomore Canon Sandefur led the JV Boys with a time of 20:40.50, good for 71st place. Here’s a complete list of the Hawks’ harriers on Saturday:
Bethany Graham of John Champe High School won the varsity girls race in an astonishing 17:39.30, while Midlothian High School won the team title with 47 points. Daniel O’Brien of Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg bested the boys’ varsity field with a time of 15:24.50, and the team honors went to L.C. Bird with a team score of 108 points.
