Girls XC Finishes 3rd in Regions, Advances to States
On a sunny, blustery Thursday at Loriella Park in Fredericksburg, the girls cross country team had one of its best performances at a regional meet in years!
As a team, the girls finished third with a score of 84 points in the Class 4, Region B cross country championships on Thursday, November 1. That third place finish qualified the girls’ team for the VHSL Class 4 State Cross Country Championships! The girls were led by junior Rachel Crytser, who raced her way to a runner-up finish individually, with a time of 20:12.20 for 5 kilometers on the tough and hilly Loriella Park course.
Leading the rest of the Lady Hawks contingent was freshman Delaney Childs, who came in 14th place with a time of 22:17.10. The other Hanover girls’ finishers were: junior Makenzie Joiner (18th/22:58.40), sophomore Sidney Chesley (20th/23:13.10), sophomore Garnett Martin (30th/24:23.40), freshman Grace Bell (31st/24:25.50), and junior Grace McDaniel (34th/24:34.40).
Midlothian won the girls’ regional title with a score of 42 points, followed by Patrick Henry in second with a score of 79 points. Louisa County junior Cierra Caicedo won the girls’ individual title with a time of 19:56.40.
The Hanover boys’ team also ran admirably on their way to a seventh place team finish, with a score of 165 points. The Hawks were led by junior Cole Myers, who placed 23rd in a deep, competitive boys’ field with a time of 18:12.50. The other boys’ finishers for Hanover were: junior Troy Charania (27th/18:24.20), freshman Ethan Coleman (28th/18:25.10), freshman Ethan Belote (38th/18:53.40), senior Jake Osborn (50th/19:26.50), junior Khaliq McQueen (52nd/19:35.30), and sophomore Wes Gable (64th/20:08.80).
Midlothian completed a sweep of the team titles with a score of 46 points for the boys’ team. Midlothian’s top runner, senior Max Etka, won the boys’ individual title with a time of 16:50.
The VHSL Class 4 State Cross Country Championships will take place on Saturday, November 10 at Great Meadow in The Plains, VA. The Hanover girls’ team is slated to compete at 10:30 AM that morning. Congrats to all the runners on a great regional meet!
