Cross Country Team

The Hanover cross country team competed in the 4A Region B Cross Country Championships at Belvedere Plantation near Fredericksburg, VA on Thursday, November 2. Both teams ran well and held their own on a tough course against stiff competition.

The girls’ team finished 5th out of 10 teams, with a team score of 128 points among their top five runners. The girls were led by sophomore Rachel Crytser, who qualified individually for the state meet by finishing 3rd in a time of 20:01 for the 5k race.  The other girls’ runners representing Hanover were: freshman Sidney Chesley (22:27/21st), senior Shelly Underwood (22:50.50/27th), freshman Garnett Martin (23:42.50/39th), junior Genna Dumville (23:53.40/43rd), junior Madeline Atkinson (24:01.40/47th), and junior Eve Sayles (25:21.50/61st).

The boys’ team finished 6th out of 12 teams in the region, and also had an individual qualifier for states in senior Nathaniel Good, who finished 7th with a time of 17:43.20.  Hanover’s other boys’ runners were: sophomore Cole Myers (18:03.50/20th), sophomore Troy Charania (18:44.80/35th), junior Zach Chessor (18:49.60/42nd), senior Jackson Mercer (19:21.50/54th), senior Tyler Brown (20:11.90/67th), and freshman Wes Gable (20:59.20/73rd).

Aubrey Wingeart of King George was the individual girls’ champion with a time of 19:30.20, while Max Etka of Midlothian was the individual boys’ champion with a time of 16:36.70.  The Midlothian Trojans were the team champions for both the girls and the boys.
